Jose Valverde and the San Diego Padres have agreed on a one year deal. This off season the Padres GM A. J. Preller has taken the baseball world by surprise with all of his additions, including Matt Kemp from the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, one piece of his team he hasn't completely overdone is his bullpen. Well I guess that all ends today.
A couple of season's ago Jose Valverde was regarded as one of the games best, compiling a 2.24 ERA in 2011. Since He has not been the same. The Tigers, Mets and now the Padres are all giving him one chance. This deal will likely be for cheap and be a very low risk, high reward situation for both sides.
Last season at the trade deadline, the Padres shipped closer Houston Street to the Angels, making Joaquin Benoit the closer. Jose will not have A chance at the closer role immediately, but if he can return to form, he will have a chance to be a vital piece to the Padres bullpen in 2015.
Baseball is,was, and always will be the greatest game in the world
